League of Rural Voters Releases 2008 Rural Voter Guide
Compares presidential candidates on issues impacting rural communities
(08/12/08) MINNEAPOLIS - Today, the League of Rural Voters released their 2008 Rural Voter Guide, giving voters an overview of where the two presidential candidates - Democratic Senator Barack Obama and Republican Senator John McCain - stand on a wide variety of rural policy issues.
Issues examined include: health care, education, Social Security, the economy, energy and immigration. While not specifically urban or rural, the guide addresses the candidates' positions on these issues through a rural lens. The Farm Policy section is the most specifically rural issue and the guide clearly spells out voting record differences between Senators McCain and Obama.
"More than 60 million people live in rural America and they’re deeply concerned about issues that affect their future. We researched the issues, analyzed candidate positions and reviewed voting records on behalf of rural voters, so that they can be as informed as possible when they enter the voting booth this November," Executive Director, Niel Ritchie, said.

The League of Rural Voters was founded in 1985 as a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the representation of rural people in the public policy making process. The League seeks to build awareness of the economic challenges facing rural communities while advocating for federal and state policies that focus government resources on education, health care and local and regional economic development.
